When I learned I would be visiting the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, I immediately knew what nail polish I would be wearing when I went – probably not the average person’s response to such news, but then again this is me we are talking about. Anyway, given its name, “Blue Moon Lagoon” by OPI was my go-to polish for my day at Iceland’s famous Blue Lagoon.
Ultra-Sheer Formula
I have to say, this polish is a real pain! It’s ultra-sheer formula make it impossible to build up to enough opacity without inadvertently completing the 100 coats of nail polish challenge! I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I redid my manicure for this shoot at least 3 times. I know part of the fault is mine as I impatiently starting using my hands too soon after applying the polish, but as I was required to put down 3-4 coats in order to get the proper opacity, it was bound to get smudged and ruined in the process. When you have to use that many coats of polish, it makes it extremely difficult to get good results in the end.
Beautiful Holographic Finish
All that being said, I do love the color of “Blue Moon Lagoon” (when you can get the right opacity). It’s turquoise tone is further enhanced with a holographic sheen, making your manicure luminous and almost rainbow-esque in any sunlight. So if you’re really into this color and want a super cool holographic manicure, just make sure you are extremely patient and give each coat enough time to dry before moving on to the next!
