How I Spent My Birthday Weekend

Firstly, I thought I would relaunch Life with Laila by recapping how I spent my 24th birthday. My birthday is on June 26, and this year I was lucky enough to spend the weekend away at the Ligurian Coast in Italy, only a few hours drive away from where I live.

We left Saturday morning and drove down past Genoa, to arrive in Recco, where our hotel was. After checking in, we took a 15 minute walk down to the seaside to enjoy lunch by the beach. I was able to try the region’s well-known focaccia while taking in the sparkling blue sea. After lunch, we walked along the pier, and since it was quite a warm and sunny day, we had no choice but to enjoy a gelato.

That night I decided to relax in the hotel and enjoy some me-time while catching up on YouTube and updating my Instagram with all the lovely pics that I had taken earlier that day.

On Sunday, the 26th, I had a nice long lie in, which for me, was the perfect way to start my 24th birthday (if you know me, you know I love sleeping in whenever possible). By the time we were dressed and ready to go, it was already lunchtime so we decided to head to the neighboring town of Camogli for lunch. As parking in Camogli is truly a nightmare, we had no choice but to park at the Hotel where we decide to also eat lunch.

Lunch in Camogli

If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stop by Hotel Cenobio dei dogi and eat at their “La Playa” restaurant, as you will have a spectacular view of the sea and the town. I went for the black pasta with lobster, which was not on the menu but recommended by the waiter, and I was certainly not disappointed. It was very delicious and I hope to return there one day soon to have the same dish again.

After lunch, we took a stroll along the private beach of the hotel.

Boat Ride to San Fruttuoso

We then drove back over to Recco, where we left the car and then took a boat ride to San Fruttuoso. I would also recommend taking this boat ride, as driving to San Fruttuoso takes much longer, and you would also miss the opportunity to see dolphins in the sea, like I did! Unfortunately, they were too quick for me to get any snaps of them, but still a highlight for me!

The boat makes multiple stops, picking up passengers in Camogli and other towns along the coast.

Once in San Fruttuoso, we visited the monastery, before wandering along another trail, and finally finishing by having a drink at the small bar located above the beach. While not much to do, the view is simply breathtaking and the sparkly, blue water is amazing.

For dinner, we headed to Milan for sushi at Finger’s Restaurant. Sadly, I was too impressed by the food to even think to take some pictures, but hopefully I will be back again soon to do a proper review. But let me just say that it was definitely a perfect birthday for me, with a lot of innovative and tasty sushi dishes.

I made a small video of the few clips I captured on my birthday, so be sure to check that out.

Let me know if you’ve ever visited any of these places, or how you spent your last birthday. I’d love to know! 🙂
